Turkey Black Bean Chili

As I write this the wind is gusting, the rain is sideways and the power went out as soon as this was done simmering! It is time for comfort food!

I love the simplicity and flavor of my Turkey Black Bean Chili and it is a family and crowd pleaser! I love doubling the recipe and freezing some for a future meal or lunches.



2 teaspoons avocado or olive oil

2 cloves minced garlic

1 medium yellow onion, chopped

1.5 lbs ground turkey

4 tablespoons chili powder

2 teaspoons cumin

½ teaspoon salt

⅛-¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

½ teaspoon oregano

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

8 oz frozen yellow corn

28 oz canned tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes

15 oz can black beans, rinsed

1 cup chicken broth or chicken bone broth ( I always use bone broth for the added protein and health benefits)


Optional Toppings:

Sour cream, shredded cheese, jalapenos


Heat oil over medium heat and add onions and garlic, cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently until onions are translucent. Add ground turkey and brown until no longer pink, stirring and breaking up frequently. Add seasonings and mix for 30 seconds. Add crushed tomatoes, corn, chicken broth and beans and stir together. Cover and let simmer for 25-30 minutes. Enjoy with toppings or over a baked potato or sweet potato!
